Apples and Oranges

updated post

Being inquisitive is a good thing. It shows interest and an eagerness to learn.

To show an appreciation for something new or different is a good thing too. It also shows interest and an eagerness to learn. But more importantly, it shows a willingness to include all things deemed valuable.

Seeking validation from and blind loyalty to people, places, and things that do not show you direct favor or provide you direct benefit shows extreme desperation. It shows a lack of intelligence and a lack of self-respect.

A more subtle example of this is the attempt to look or act like someone else.

The result is the very same and all of it shows that you do not know yourself.

There is a difference between you trying to look your best and you trying to look like someone who looks nothing like you.

There is a difference between you learning things that refine your style and you mimicking someone who has very little in common with you.

There is a difference between you adding value to yourself by being a better you and you adding value to someone else with your impossible attempts to not be you.

Who, of any value whatsoever, prefers an imitation over the real thing?

The world is watching.

You show us how much you value or do not value yourself.

It is not always someone else who devalues you and those like you.

You have a mind. You have an identity. You have a culture.

When you value yourself, you uplift your value.

You celebrate you.

And you always keep yourself in the best light.

Preparation is Key

A good hostess is

  1. Comfortable. She sets the mood for the party and so is light-hearted, relaxed, and sociable. Her space is open, welcoming, and festive. Food and drink are located in a way that encourage guests to move throughout the room(s). And there are adequate seating and surfaces to rest glasses and plates.
  2. Ready. She has double checked the details. Every space a guest may visit is spotless and supplied. Extra necessities are tucked neatly away in convenient locations. She is dressed and prepared to receive guests at least an hour early.
  3. Hospitable. Her guests are made to feel special. She greets everyone personally, points out where everything is located, and makes introductions. It is important that each guest is comfortable and engaged.
  4. A member of the party. She does a fine job of replenishing food, drink, etc. and tidying up. She also takes deep breaths, remembers that this is actually fun, and she thoroughly enjoys herself.

When Did You Last

Grace a stranger with your smile?

Show tangible kindness or generosity?

Uplift another’s accomplishment?

Share beneficial information?

Create something beautifulĀ  . . . or usefulĀ  . . . or both?

Demonstrate solid morals and strong values?

Present only your best self?

Pretty is as pretty does.
